5-06-2008--- Hudson River Newburgh, NY. Gary Magie and I had another GREAT
day out on the mighty Hudson. We thought yesterday was good, but today was
even better! We caught and released 50 Stripers with the biggest weighing
in at 21.5 pounds. The action was fast and furious this morning. Sand Worms
were the key to our success right from the start. Gary and me would have
landed more today if we didn't have to be towed back to the launch by 4
NYC police officers. Around 11:30am we were drifting by the Newburgh-
Beacon bridge when the fish disappeared. The boat wouldn't start! We kept
trying to start it but it stalled out every time we tried to move. At this
point we had already boated 25 fish. Off came the engine cover, we were
drifting towards Malborough. We threw the anchor! Gary knows his boat well.
He thought this was probably a fuel issue. He was right, the gas we bought
at Stewart's in Monticello this morning had enough water in it to give us
a big headache for about 2.5 hours. A huge THANK YOU goes out to the NYC
Police officers that were out enjoying some good fishing and went out of
the way to lend us a helping hand by towing us all the way back to Gully's.

I stayed with the boat and Gary headed to get some new gas to see if that
was the problem. We mixed up the new gas and the motor started like it was
new. We got back on the fish at 2:30pm. We landed 25 more and got off the
river by 7:30pm. We switched up to blood worms in the late afternoon early
evening to round out our catch. I'm still looking for a big big BIG fish!
I still have a few days left to catch that 50+ pounder! See you out there!
