6-11-2005---It was hot and sticky on the river today. Israel Ayala and his
son Mike didn't let the heat and humitity get in the way of their fullday
outing from Ten mile river to Zane Gray access. Israel and Mike boated
25 fish today. Their catch included Smallmouth Bass, Fallfish, Sunfish, and
Rock Bass. Water Temp: 75+ degrees. Water Flow: 1150 cfs at Barryville, NY.

6-04-2005---Tom Thommasma and Paul Anistacio from New Jersey, enjoyed
the great weather and some fine fishing on the UDR today. Water Flow:
1400cfs. We finally got a little rain last night but the river is still very
low and clear for this time of year. Tom and Paul's fish catch included
15+ Smallmouth Bass, a few American Eels, Fallfish, and Sunfish. Tom had
the hot hand today but Pauls "fin hooked" Walleye topped off a great day!

5-29-2005---I floated with Gary Magie and Tom Parks today. Water Flow:
1700 cfs. Water Temp: 65 degrees. We had a good half day catching and
releasing Several Brown Trout, 15 Smallmouth Bass, and a few Fallfish.

=========================================================================
5-21-2005---Mike Keifer and his Dad John, from PA. had a nice day out on
the UDR. Water Flow: low 1600cfs. Water Clarity: Clear at Port Jervis,NY.
Mike and John caught and released over 20 fish today. The catch today
included Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, Sunfish, Fallfish, and American Eel.
Rain is in the forecast for the next few days. The region sure could use it!
The American Shad fishing has been very tough for the past few weeks.
Reports south of Port Jervis indicate the Shad are still migrating north
in very large Pods. Cool water temps and a good rain should get the Shad
moving upriver once again. Water temps remain in the 60 to 68 degree range.

=========================================================================
5-15-2005---Bob Fritz, from Port Jervis New York, had the boat to himself
today. The fishing was fair today. The Smallmouth Bass, Rock Bass, and
Fallfish provided most of the action today. Bob also landed a Rainbow
Trout and had a small Brown Trout on that spit the hook out. Water Flow:
2500+ cfs. Water Clarity: Extremely Clear. Water Temps: 62-70 degrees.
Plain and simple....The system needs a good shot of rain to get the Shad
run moving again. The Shad are still migrating north and there should be
catchable numbers trickeling in until mid-June this year, however the Shad
fishing may not be as productive as it could be, due to the low water
conditions we are experiencing this Spring. The good news is, that the
Smallmouth Bass action will only get better as Spring turns into Summer.

==========================================================================
5-14-2005--- It was nice to get back on my home river today. I floated
the Upper Delaware with seasoned vetrans, Bob and Ryan Bischoff today.
Water flow is well below average levels for this time of year measuring
2500 cfs at the Port Jervis, NY gauge. Water Temps: 62 to 68 degrees.
There were no Shad to be had today....But that didn't stop Bob and Ryan
from landing at least 40 fish today! The Shad illuded us but the Trout,
Smallmouth Bass, Fallfish, and Rock Bass kept Ryan and Bob busy today.

=========================================================================
5-13-2005--- The Striper bug has bit me good! I spent the week fishing
the Hudson River in search of Ol' Mossyjaw. Monday was a little slow but
I did manage to land 7 Stripers with the biggest one pushing the 7 # mark.
I also lost a drag peeling 15+ pounder today before it spit the hook on me.
Gary Magie joined me in the afternoon and picked up a small Striped Bass.
Yolanda joined me on tuesday and enjoyed the beautiful weather and caught
her very 1st Hudson river Striper! We put 9 fish in the boat today drifting
Blood and Sand Worms. Yolanda boated the fish of the day, a fat 20 pounder!
Hit the Hudson again on wednesday. I picked up 9 more today. The biggest
one that I landed was in the 10 pound range. I lost a big BIG fish today!
I hooked into a good one and fought it for about 10 mintues before it broke
me off. Never did get a look at it but it was the best one I hooked all week.
Thursday was too windy to fish but I got into them pretty good on Friday.
I boated 20 fish today and at least 20 others missed me! All in all
it was
a great week spent out on the Hudson River. See you on the Delaware!

==========================================================================
5-08-2005--- I switched rivers this weekend and ventured to the Hudson
river with the "Bait Man" Gary Magie from Monticello, NY. Gary and I
fished a 2 day Striped Bass tournament out of Charles Ryder Park. The
weather was brutal with wind pushing the 25 mph mark on saturday. I boated
7 Stripers weighing in my biggest at just shy of the 13 pound mark. The
best action we had on Saturday was catching live herring on sabiki rigs
up on the Rondout creek. We gave it our best efforts on Sunday but the
wind and waves were to much for us to handle in our 16 foot sportcraft.

==========================================================================
5-05-2005--- I got out with my wife, Yolanda for a few hours this evening.
Yoly had the hot hand landing several good sized American Shad and a few
Smallmouth Bass. She even let me catch a couple Shad and 1 Smallmouth!

Yolanda Riley shows off an American Shad and me with a decent Smallmouth.
==========================================================================
5-01-2005--- Water flow 6000+ cfs at the Port Jervis gauge. Water temp 50
degrees. I boated 6 Shad and had several short strikes in a half day of
fishing today. It was good to get out on the Mighty Delaware again!

Here are a few of the American Shad that I caught, photo'd, & released
==========================================================================
4-19-2005---I am happy to report that the American Shad Run has begun
here on the upper Delaware! My Ice team partner, Rich Stachurski and I,
enjoyed the blue bird skies and a great 1st float of the year! We picked
up a few Shad, 5 Trout, 15+ Small Mouth Bass and I got lucky, and boated
a small Walleye, earning the 1st Delaware "Grand Slam" of the 2005 season!
The river still shows scars everywhere from last Septembers flood and
the more recent flooding the region received earlier this April. The #2
railroad bridge fishing access in Sparrowbush across from Kurt's Sport
shop is closed to traffic. The Shinglekill and Delaware washed out the
access road in several spots a few weeks ago. This Aprils flood was the
worst the Upper Delaware river has seen in the last 50+ years. River flow
is now back to normal with water temps closing in on the 60 degree mark
these past few days. The past 2 weeks have seen bluebird skies with no
rain in the region. This may change this weekend with temps dropping into
the lower 50's and heavy rain being predicted for this coming saturday.
SPRING has sprung! Grab your gear and head to the water! KR
